AREA REPRESENTATIVES

What do Area Reps do?

Area Reps check on neighbors in an emergency

Each of the 25 Sectors are divided into "areas" of 8-12 reidences.  Area Reps go door-to-door looking for the "OK Sign" displayed in a window, letting them know the occupants are just that - "OK".

If there is no sign present, the Area Rep will knock on the door to check on the welfare of all residents, and report back to their Sector Chief located at the Aid Station.

If there is structural damage or any other observable damage, the Area Rep will complete the Damage Assessment Form and reports his/her findings to the Sector Chief.

Area Reps DO NOT rescue or administer First Aid.

Area Representative Duties

During Any and All Emergencies

  1. After securing you own home, put up your OK Sign.
  2. Take your "tool kit" (flashlight, pencil, paper, etc.) and report to your Aid Station.
  3. Check in with your Sector Chief, put on your name badge and if you have them, a reflective vest and helmet.
  4. Using the Area Damage Assessment Form, begin checking on the residents in your respective area of your Sector.

Never endanger yourself. Use a "BUDDY SYSTEM"

Never enter a building alone

  1.  Knock loudly on the doors of homes which do not have an OK Sign displayed (DO NOT RING THE DOORBELL)  Identify yourself and confirm the condition of all those present.
  2. Check your area for:
    1. Injured people
    2. Fire
    3. Utility Leaks
    4. Damaged Buildings

Record all pertinent information on the Area Damage Assessment Form. Keep going until you have completed checking homes in your area.

If there are injuries, RECRUIT HELPERS to:

Contact your Sector Chief for Medical, Emotional Support, Logistics, etc.

Recruit a neighbor willing to help out to stay with the injured person.

Complete your round of your area

  1. Turn in the completed Area Damage Assessment Form to your Sector Chief.
  2. Check with your Sector Chief for other action needed.
  3. Stay on alert at your Aid Station until you are released by a Stand Down order.
